New Design and Production Service Makes it Easy to Switch to Membrane Keypads

A new design and production service from knitter-switch, makes it easy for users to adopt membrane technology for their switching and control applications. The key benefits of membrane technology include reliability, long contact life, easy mounting, custom graphics, custom connection and illumination, and the flexibility to choose materials that offer resistance to environmental conditions such as dust, moisture and chemicals.

According to Hanspeter Kuelb, CEO of knitter-switch, membrane keypads can often provide the most suitable switching solution and offer a fast and convenient way of mounting a number of switches and indicators to a control panel.  

“The problem is that designers are often wary of specifying membrane keypads because there is a perception that the design process can be difficult and the tooling costs expensive”. Says Hanspeter Kuelb “With many membrane manufacturers located in the Far East, it is also easy for the design process to be hampered by difficult communications and slow response.

“We have overcome these concerns by locating experienced design teams in the UK, France and Germany, each capable of guiding customers through the design process towards a cost effective and functional solution. Prototypes are provided on short lead times for final approval of form and function and, once approved, high volume tooling and manufacture are carried out in Asia to ensure very competitive pricing. “ He adds.

Neuer, kostenloser  Design-Guide für Folientastaturen und Silikonschaltmappen

knitter-switch einer der führenden Schalterhersteller Europas bietet einen neuen Service zur  Unterstützung im Entwicklungsprozess von Silikonschaltmatten und Folientastaturen.

Die Folientastaturen und Silikonschaltmatten bieten durch individuell gestaltbare Komponenten vielfältige Möglichkeiten. Oft ist das die einfachste Lösung mehrere Schalter und sonstige Komponenten (z.B. LEDs) gleichzeitig bequem auf dem Bedienfeld unterzubringen.

“Das Problem ist, daß viele Designer mit Folientastaturen vorsichtig sind, weil sie den Designprozess scheuen und Angst vor hohen Werkzugkosten haben „ sagt Hanspeter Külb, CEO von knitter-switch “Hinzu kommt, das mit vielen Herstellern in Asien die Kommunikation schwierig und langatmig ist.“

Die Tastaturen gibt es in verschiedensten Ausführungen: Flach oder geprägt, in Polydom- oder Metalldom Technik und mit einer Vielzahl von taktilen Rückmeldemöglichkeiten. ESD/RFI Abschirmung ist selbstverständlich. SMD LEDs und LCD Fenster sind integrierbar. Zudem gibt es eine große Auswahl an Farben und Designs – und noch viele weitere Gestaltungsspielräume.

Nouveau service de design et de production pour faciliter le basculement vers les claviers à membranes

knitter-switch, un des premiers fabricantes de commutateurs en Europe, propose un nouveau service de design et de production pour permettre à ces clients d’utiliser la technologie membrane pour leurs applications de commutation et de contrôle. Les principaux avantages de la technologie membrane sont la fiabilité, une longue durée de vie, un montage facile, des graphiques adaptés, une connexion et un éclairage personnalisés, et la possibilité de choisir des matériaux qui offrent une résistance aux conditions environnementales telles que la poussière et les produits chimiques.

Selon Hanspeter Kuelb, CEO knitter-switch, les claviers à membrane peuvent le plus souvent proposer la solution de commutation la plus adaptée et offrir un moyen rapide et pratique pour le montage d'un grand nombre de commutateurs et d'indicateurs dans un panneau de configuration.

« Le problème est que les concepteurs sont souvent réticent pour spécifier des claviers à membrane, car ils pensent que le processus de conception sera difficile avec des frais d'outillage coûteux », explique Hanspeter Kuelb. « Avec de nombreux fabricants de membrane située en Asie, il est aussi facile pour le processus de conception d'être bloqués par les difficultés de communication et de la lenteur de réponse. »

« Nous avons surmonté ces préoccupations en localisant l'expérience des équipes de conception au Royaume-Uni, en France et en Allemagne, chacun étant capable de guider ces clients à travers le processus de conception vers une solution rentable et viable. Les prototypes sont fournis dans des délais courts pour approbation finale de la forme et de la fonction et, une fois approuvés, les outillages et les forts volumes sont pris en charge en Asie afin d'assurer un prix compétitif. »
